Endodontics in Oceanside CA

Endodontic procedures encompass any treatments that involve the inner tissues of the teeth, often known as the pulp or nerve. The term “endodontic” is formed from two stems: “endo,” which means “within,” and “odont,” which means “tooth.” Every dentist is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of endodontic problems, however, some teeth might be extremely difficult to diagnose and cure. This is when an endodontist may be required. Grace Dental performs endodontic procedures to wipe out infection and save the tooth.

What Is Endodontics?

Endodontics is a dental specialty that specializes in the treatment of dental pulp. This pulp is found within the core of a tooth and is made up of living connective tissue as well as unique cells known as odontoblasts. Endodontic procedures are used by dental professionals to preserve tooth function by treating or removing these tissues and cells as needed.

What Is the Purpose of an Endodontic Procedure?

When the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes irritated or infected, endodontic therapy is required. Deep decay, frequent dental operations on the tooth, or a break or chip in the tooth can all cause inflammation or infection. Furthermore, even if a tooth has no visible chips or breaks, an injury to the tooth may result in pulp damage. Irritation or infection of the pulp can cause pain or lead to an abscess if left untreated.

What Happens During Endodontic Treatment?

A local anesthetic is used to numb the afflicted area during an endodontic treatment, also known as a “root canal.” The tooth is then isolated with a latex sheet, or “rubber dam,” to keep it dry and clean throughout treatment. The endodontist will then use small tools to open the top of the tooth and obtain access to its interiors. Then they will use small files to remove the sick or damaged pulp. The endodontist will also employ files to alter the interior chamber of the tooth.
At this stage, the endodontist may wash away any leftover pulp with water. In addition, they may use an antibacterial solution to kill any microorganisms. Once everything is clean, the compartment is filled with a rubber-like material. Following that, a temporary filling is placed to seal the tooth. After a few weeks, the tooth is capped with a permanent crown to restore normal chewing function.
